Travel Tryouts Info

2024 Fall - 2025 Spring Travel Season registration is now open.

For the 2024 Fall - 2025 Spring Travel season, grade groups are determined by the grade the player is entering in September 2024.

All players must attend at least one tryout unless otherwise excused by the Board if they are to be considered for placement on a Travel Team. Attending only one tryout may affect team placement.
In the event that a player cannot attend a tryout, please submit an email to the Registrar or present a written notice at the Check-in time indicating the reason for the absence prior to the start of the tryout. If the Board of Directors finds the excuse acceptable, the player will be eligible for selection.

Please note that no one has been placed on a travel team for the upcoming season even if a player is currently on a Travel team or was on a Travel team in a previous year.

Players attend the grade group they are entering in September 2024.

Location: Joyce Middle School Soccer Fields

Girls Grades 3 & 4: Monday, May 20 & Wednesday, May 22. 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Check in at 3:30pm.
Players trying out for Goalkeeper will be asked to stay until 6:30pm.

Girls Grades 5 & 6: Monday, May 20 & Wednesday, May 22. 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Check in at 4:00pm.
Players trying out for Goalkeeper will be asked to stay until 7:00pm.

Girls Grade 7: Monday, May 20, 5:00pm - 6:15pm, Check in at 4:30pm.
Girls Grade 8: Monday, May 20, 6:15pm - 7:30pm, Check in at 6:00pm.
Girls Grades 7 & 8: Wednesday, May 22nd 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Check in at 4:30pm.

Boys Grade 3: Tuesday, May 21, 4:00 - 5:15pm, Check in at 3:30pm.
Boys Grade 4: Tuesday, May 21, 5:15 - 6:30pm, Check in at 5:00pm.
Boys Grades 3 & 4: Thursday, May 23, 4:00 - 6:00pm. Check in at 3:30pm.

Boys Grade 5: Tuesday, May 21, 4:30 - 5:45pm, Check in at 4:00pm.
Boys Grade 6: Tuesday, May 21 5:45 - 7:00pm, Check in at 5:30pm.
Boys Grades 5 & 6: Thursday, May 23, 4:30 - 6:00pm. Check in at 4:00pm.
Players trying out for Goalkeeper will be asked to stay until 6:30pm.

There is no cost to tryout.

The total cost to play on a Grade 4 - 8 Travel team for both the fall and spring season is $260.00*. The $260* balance is due to be paid by September 1st after placement on a Travel team.

All players should bring the following to the tryouts:
A ball: Size 4 for grades 3-6. Size 5 for grades 7-8.
Bring plenty of water.

What to wear to the tryouts.

T-shirt, soccer shorts, long socks covering their shin pads. Players must wear shin pads. Sweatshirts and sweatpants may be worn based on the weather.

Players can not wear their current uniform shirt or shorts.

Players can not wear any jewelry except for medical reasons.

Players can not participate if wearing any type of hard brace or cast. Knee braces that have a hard frame must be covered by an approved covering.

2024 Fall - 2025 Spring Travel Program

Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 Travel Program is for all eligible players that attend grades 3 through 8 in the 2024-2025 school year. Players are separated by gender and placed on teams based on ability.

For the Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 season, grade groups are determined by the grade the player is entering in September 2024.

Woburn Youth Soccer participates in the Essex County Youth Soccer League. Teams generally practice two evenings a week and play games on Saturdays either home in Woburn or away at any of the cities within the Northeast and the North Shore areas. Fall games typically start the Saturday after Labor Day and spring games typically start the second Saturday in April.

Being selected to play in the WYS Travel Program should be considered an honor, prevents another player from being selected for the team and comes with an implied level of commitment. Both Player and Parent/Guardian should be aware that by accepting placement on the Travel Team, this commitment starts just after Labor Day (2024) and ends at the end of June (2025).

Evaluations are required for players trying out to play Travel and teams are formed and placed into divisions based on the team's composition. Therefore, it is requested that players who register to play Travel soccer follow through with that commitment. There is an impact when players decide not to play after teams are formed since players cannot be easily moved between teams to balance the numbers and teams may be left short on players.

All players that want to be considered for selection to a Travel Team must make the tryouts injured or not, unless excused by the Board through the process referenced above.

The total cost to play on a Grade 4 - 8 Travel team for both the fall and spring season is $260.00. The $260 balance is due to be paid by September 1st after placement on a Travel team.

The total cost to play on a Grade 9 - 12 + PG Travel team for the spring season is $150.00.

Players not selected for a Travel team will be placed on the same City League team they played for the previous season unless they are moving up a Grade group. Players moving up a Grade group will be placed on a new City League team.

The cost to play City League is $170 for both the Fall and Spring seasons.
